Here’s how we did it:
✅ Our team analysed 2,000 wedding-themed playlists on Spotify.
✅ We used Playlist Miner to gather playlists titled:
“Wedding dancefloor”
“Wedding party”
“Walking down the aisle”
“First dance songs”
✅ We examined 49,091 songs to calculate which ones appeared most frequently.
We found that:
– “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston is the most popular wedding song, appearing in 24.20% of playlists.
– “Dancing Queen” by ABBA came in second, featuring in 19.70% of playlists.
– “Yeah!” by Usher featuring Lil Jon & Ludacris was third, appearing in 19.50% of playlists.
✅ We wrote a press release highlighting our findings.
✅ Our team sent the press release to journalists covering music, entertainment, and weddings.
Within days, top-tier publications featured our story:
🔗 People . com (DR 90)
🔗 Brides . com (DR 86)
🔗 Unilad (DR 75)
🔗 The Scotsman (DR 85)
🔗 Sky News (DR 92)
…and many more!
While big data projects can be high-risk, the payoff can be huge when they hit.
If you are working in PR, remember that not all data campaigns will be heavy hitters regarding links.
It is best to combine smaller, reactive and expert commentary campaigns with data studies if you guarantee a certain number of links.
I hope this inspires your next PR campaign! 🙌
